A person’s lashes are often considered to be one of the most important elements for making their eyes really stand out.

Lash lifts and lash tints are two popular esthetic techniques that help do this by making lashes look longer, fuller, and even bolder. However, unless you work in the beauty industry, there’s a good chance you’ve probably heard about these techniques but might not be able to entirely tell them apart.

In the following article, we dive into the differences between lash lifts and eyelash tings, along with the benefits of each treatment. While we don’t necessarily have a preferred technique, as we teach both in our esthetician program here at Modern College, maybe this guide will help you decide!

What is a Lash Lift?

As far as esthetic treatments go, lash lifts are among the simplest and most straightforward out there. Most trained estheticians learn how to perform and master these techniques early in their studies, and they’re among the most common bookings at esthetic spas.

The primary goal of a lash lift is to improve the look of your natural eyelashes by giving them a small boost that involves lifting and curling them upwards. Also named eyelash perms

During a lash lift appointment, the esthetician will apply a special solution to your lashes. This helps break down the bonds within the hair, allowing the lashes to become more easily shaped and lifted.

Next, the lashes are carefully lifted and curled using small tools. A setting is then applied to help the lashes keep the new shape once the procedure is over.

The whole process for a lash lift typically takes between 45 minutes to an hour to perform and should last for up to six to eight weeks, with a few optional touch-up appointments along the way.

What are the benefits of lash lifts?

The main benefit is the way that lifting your lashes can help accentuate or highlight your natural beauty with little more than a simple procedure. However, beyond the outward aesthetic component, there are a few other strong points going for this technique:

  • Lash lifts are natural – they use your lashes without needing to add any additional fibers or products to extend them.
  • As far as esthetician treatments go, lash lifts are relatively quick and simple procedures – often requiring no more than a single lunch-hour appointment.
  • Lash lifts are suitable for all types of lashes, and there’s virtually no chance of damaging your natural lashes in the process.
  • The results are fairly long lasting, especially considering the simplicity of the process.
  • Lash lifts are also low maintenance afterwards, with touch-up appointments often being optional.

lash lift and tint differences

What are lash tints?

Lash tinting is a c0mmon beauty treatment where a semi-permanent dye is applied to the eyelashes in order to enhance their colour, as well as making them appear darker, thicker, and fuller.

The procedure typically involves carefully applying the dye to the lashes, adding definition around one’s eyes without the need for mascara. In all, the procedure is often fairly simple, and can be done in as little as 15-30 minutes.

What are the benefits of lash tints?

The main benefits are in the ways tinting helps accentuate your lashes and eyes. This is particularly beneficial for people with blonde or other lighter coloured hair that doesn’t stand out that much naturally. Of course, even folks with darker, and naturally thick eyelashes can still benefit from the treatment.

  • Lash tints make your lashes appear thicker and longer. Part of the procedure typically darkens the lashes, making them appear fuller and more defined even without mascara.
  • It’s a quick and convenient treatment. Plus, after you’ve tinted your lashes, you can easily skip the daily mascara application, saving you plenty of time in your regular makeup routine.
  • Lash tints keep your eyelashes looking natural. Despite making your eyelashes fuller and more pronounced, they never really lose that natural look, as it evenly colours each lash without clumping or smudging them.
  • Lash tints are generally waterproof (to an extent). You’ll want to make sure you kep them dry for the first 24 hours after application, but after that you should be able to enjoy them at the beach or even in the pool.

What’s the main difference between lash lifts and eyelash tints?

While the treatments might seem similar, there are differences, notably in the processes for each technique. Lash lifts are a treatment to enhance the natural curl of your lashes. During a lash lift, your natural lashes are lifted and curled upwards, giving them a more open and lifted appearance. Lash tints, on the other hand, involve coloring the lashes to make them appear darker and more defined

In other words, while lash lifts typically focus on adjusting the shape of the lash, tints are about adjusting the colour. Because of that, a lot of people choose to combine the treatments, as the end results often complement one another, maximizing the impact of your lashes.
